The Nov 24 1868 date often cited as Scott Joplin's birthday is definitely incorrect. The census of 1870 and 1880 shows that date to be impossible. We do not have a specific birth date for Joplin, but it had to be between July 19 1867 and the end of January 1868; most likely sometime in 1867.
